Our Planting Projects
In 2021, our planting initiatives restored 368 hectares of terrestrial forest and 862.5 hectares of mangrove forests (that would cover over 3,000 American football fields!). These trees will store an estimated 2,421,110 tonnes of Co2e over their lifetime. To put this number into context, it’s roughly equivalent to removing 521,675 cars from the road for a year.
You can learn more about our planting sites on our website, but here are a few highlights from this past year.
By planting the right trees in the right places, we’re committed to creating a better, more sustainable future for our planet and the people who call it home.
Regenerative Agroforestry
Earth-friendly fashion starts with how raw materials are grown and harvested. Industrial farming hurts our planet, which is why we’re investing in regenerative agriculture to heal the land and leave it in a better state than we found it. These centuries-old farming practices help restore soil biodiversity and sequester carbon from the atmosphere. This, in turn, helps combat climate change and create other positive benefits for surrounding ecosystems and farmers.
Agroforestry is one regenerative solution we're excited to launch. This farming method integrates trees with crops and livestock to create environmental, economic, and social benefits. With the support of our planting partners, Trees for the Future and Alliance Ginneries, we’re planting 900,000 trees in cotton fields in Tanzania. Then, in collaboration with Pratibha Syntex, we plan on planting 300,000 trees in our cotton fields in India. We’ll be using our planting software, veritree, to track the success of these projects.
