Que signifie climate+?
Comment peut-on faire mieux?
- •Baisser le thermostat de deux degrés;
- •Porter tes vêtements plus d’une fois avant de les laver;
- •Te déplacer en vélo, à pied ou en autobus;
- •Faire la transition vers les ampoules DEL et les électroménagers intelligents;
- •Acheter des fruits et des légumes locaux et saisonniers;
- •Remplacer la pellicule plastique par des emballages alimentaires à la cire d’abeille;
- •Penser à prendre tes sacs, ta tasse et tes ustensiles réutilisables chaque fois que tu sors.

Le calcul
The Math
This climate+ package assumes an individual eats a burger twice per month during their 2am burger outing.
Burger | 0.072 MT CO2 |
Driving | 0.024096 MT CO2 |
x 15 years | |
Total | 1.44144 MT CO2 |
Burger
Every burger emits between 2.85 and 3.1 kg of carbon.
If we take the average of these two numbers we get 2.98, so let's use an average of 3kg per burger
(2.85 + 3.1) / 2 = 2.975
In order to change from kilograms into metric tons we use the conversion factor 0.001
3kg x 0.001 = 0.003 MT of CO2
If we assume people eat about 2 per month, their burger addiction would be emitting
0.003 MT x 2 per month x 12 months per year = 0.072 MT CO2 per year
Driving
The average car uses about 404 grams of CO2 per mile. To translate from miles to kilometres, we divide miles by 1.609, and simultaneously divide grams by 1.609. This means the average car uses about 251 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
(divide by1.609) 1: 404grams (divide by 1.609)
0.6214:251grams
In order to change grams to metric tons CO2 we use the conversion factor 0.000001.
251grams x 0.000001 = 0.000251
Let’s assume the closest burger joint is 2.0 km away. 4.0 km round trip. This means that over one year, going 4.0 km, twice per month would equal 96km per year.
4.0 km away x 2 per month x 12 month= 96 km per year
In order to find the total carbon emissions, we multiply 96km by 0.000251
96km x 0.000251 MT = 0.024096 MT CO2
Total
0.072 + 0.024096 = 0.096 MT CO2
Over fifteen years this would equal 1.44 MT CO2.
0.096 MT CO2 x 15 years = 1.44144 MT CO2
